WICHITA, Kan. — A woman and her husband were shot and killed in their south Wichita home.
Now, that woman’s family is struggling to understand what led up to the incident, said Claudia Coria.
Coria is the aunt of Lucero Rodriguez, a 22-year-old woman shot by her husband’s twin brother Wednesday night.
Coria said she was in disbelief when a friend relayed the news.
“She just hugged me real tight, and said ‘It’s true.’ And I’m like ‘No! It’s not!” she sobbed. “No, it’s not! It can’t be. It can’t be. She cannot be dead. So another one of the ladies brought me a picture of the report. When I saw his face, I knew it was true.”
The face she was referring to was of Luis Alvarado-Meraz. He was arrested for shooting and killing his twin brother, Manuel, and Manuel’s wife, Lucero.
Lucero had lived in Wichita for the past few years. She helped managed a local business and found success as a female boxer.
“Little kids love her for that enthusiastic that she had for giving in her most, you know?” Coria said. “She was a beautiful woman boxer too. She did that since she was little.”
Now, Coria said the family is trying to bring her niece’s body home. However, the funeral home will charge them $7,000 in addition to the funeral — it’s an expense they simply can’t afford.
Coria said she hopes the community will consider giving back to her family, just as Lucero had given back to others in need.
If you asked her. If she seen you struggle, she would go out of her way to help you. Didn’t matter if she just got paid and if she would be left with no money.
