Mosquito problems are already hitting parts of the country, and a new collection may help prevent issues in Sedgwick County.
The county will have a waste tire collection next week. People can bring old vehicle tires at the Sedgwick County West Yard at West and 47th Street South. Collection hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 16 to 18. It is a free service. Please note that on April 16, the collection is only open to Sedgwick County businesses and governments, then open to the public the next two days.
“We want to dispose of them properly,” said Jo Oliver with Sedgwick County Public Works. “We don’t want to see them outside this time of year. They can hold water and that can become an excellent breeding ground for mosquitoes, so we don’t to go down that road.”
Oliver said only tires from Sedgwick County businesses and governments will be accepted on April 16. Tires from businesses that accept payment for tire disposal will not be accepted.
Only tires from Sedgwick County residents will be accepted on April 17 and 18. No tires from businesses will be accepted on these days.
