Wichita Police are investigating an overnight shooting that left one man dead.

Police were called out to Douglas and Estelle around 2:50 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived on scene, they found a 49-year-old Hispanic male laying in the street just north of the intersection with a gunshot wound to the torso. He was taken to an area hospital but was pronounced dead just after 3:10 a.m.

Lt. Todd Ojile said six to eight people had been attending a birthday party or other gathering on the porch of a home in the 2700 block of East Douglas. He said police are still trying to determine if the shooting victim was a guest at the get-together, but that it’s still currently unclear what led up to the shooting.

“It’s been a slow-moving investigation so far,” Ojile said.

Police have conducted numerous interviews, but so far no arrests have been made. Lt. Ojile said there’s nothing to indicate the shooting is gang-related.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released, as police are trying to locate family members. This is the 14th homicide of the year in Wichita.
