A sheriff’s deputy recently diagnosed with cancer has passed away.
We shared the story of Jerry Blunk in March. Back then, the community came together to support the Sumner Co. Sheriff’s Deputy, who was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer months before.
Friends and co-workers helped raise $27,000 with gun raffles and a chili feed.
Blunk, 64, passed away on Tuesday. He had devoted more than 21 years of his life to the sheriff’s office and many more years to the community of Wellington.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy Blunk of Wellington, Kan.; daughter, Michelle Lafferty and her husband Rustin of Inman, Kan.; daughter, Heidi Blunk (Christopher Gorges) of Wellington, Kan.; son, Jerry Blunk of Wellington, Kan.; and his grandson, Bently Blunk of Wellington, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Teresa Guillory.
