A local garage sale benefit reached its highest year in sales.

Jamie Museousky said the garage sale raised $13,567 this weekend, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Museousky’s son was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 20 months old. He’s now five years old and is in remission. The family is thrilled to have so much support from the community.

Anyone who wishes to donate can send a check to the Museousky family. That check should be made out to the “Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.” Mail that check to Jamie Museousky, 8704 W. 19th, Wichita, KS 67212.

They would like to have the checks before the Light The Night Walk on Sept. 19 in Wichita.

6/11/15, 1:05 AM — A five-year-old boy continues to inspire the Wichita community. Now, 40 families are coming together for a garage sale benefit to help other children just like him.

The garage sale will be Thursday to Saturday at 8704 W. 19th Street – located about a block east of 19th and Tyler. It runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. All proceeds go to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

A LITTLE BOY’S STRUGGLE
In 2011, at 20 months old, Cohen Museousky was diagnosed with cancer. He went through seven months of chemotherapy, and his mom says today, he’s cancer-free.

Cohen’s family has made it their goal to help other families going through cancer. This sale, among many benefits they’ve hosted, has help bring awareness and help to the cause.

“Seeing our son suffer during treatment was truly awful,” said Jamie Museousky, Cohen’s mother. “However, we are so blessed that he is doing so well and that effective treatments were available for him. We want to make sure every family who is affected by this disease gets the treatment and support that they deserve.”

HISTORY OF THE SALE
The annual garage sale started in 2012. In that first year, the family raised about $2,000. After KAKE news covered their second event in Sept. 2013, Cohen’s mom, Jamie, said things dramatically increased. In 2013, they raised about $5,000. Last year, they raised about $9,000.

It’s their goal to raise $10,000 with this year’s event.
To help, they are offering a number of items for sale. In addition to furniture and appliances, people will find clothes, toys, electronics, dress hair bows and accessories and more. They will also have baked goods, hamburgers and hot dogs for purchase.
