What a weekend!
We are in the thick of March Madness, and I couldn’t be prouder of our Kansas teams. Though I’m sad to not see Wichita State push forward in the NCAA tournament, I am excited to see Kansas State and KU advance to the Sweet 16.
Wichita State did a great job in its first year in the American Athletic Conference – reason enough to celebrate.
Now, the focus is on KU and K-State.
KU always has a strong performance in the tournament games. They now face Clemson this week. I don’t know much about the Tigers, but I do know something about the spirit of the Jayhawks. The fans are fun to see. The team is great to watch. Devonte’ Graham is one of my favorites, and he seems like a great young man. Cheers to the Hawks in Omaha.
Then, my alma mater, Kansas State. Fans always seem to be conflicted on what to think, especially with coach Bruce Weber. He replaced Frank Martin years ago, and I feel like so many people just hate him because he’s not that feisty, passionate face that we’ve become accustomed to.
I am a Bruce Weber fan, though. I think he has the heart of someone who belongs in Manhattan. He seems to be a guy of great values (and Martin was too), and while recruiting is a challenge compared to other schools in the Big 12, moments like this matter.
If Kansas State wins, I feel like folks accept it. If Kansas State loses, the fury comes out. Weber can’t seem to catch a break.
Certainly, I hope that K-State advances to the Elite 8, but if they manage to edge past Kentucky, I wonder if fans will give Weber a pat on the back.
I hope so.
Kentucky is a great team. Kansas State is too, but much like in football, it isn’t the strongest in post-season play.
The Cats should be proud of themselves for putting in a great performance when you need to in the tournament. May Dean Wade be OK enough to give us some game time against Kentucky. Let’s show those other Wildcats what we have to offer.
I believe in KSU!
