UPDATE: We ended up raising more than $1,000 in kids books for the burn unit. Thank you so much for supporting this fundraiser.

PREVIOUS STORY

When I was 15 months old, I was seriously burned by hot water. I spent more than a month at the burn unit at Via Christi hospital in Wichita.

As a parent, I can only imagine how scary it must be to have a child go through this. I’d like to give back in a small way — by surprising kids with a little comfort at the hospital.

For every $25 donation we get on this GoFundMe, a book and teddy bear will be given to a child who is at Via Christi’s burn unit. It’s my goal to get 20 bears to the hospital… if not more.

So far, I’ve been blown away by people’s generosity for the campaign. In the past few days, we’ve had hundreds of dollars donated. (I just kept it low-key and between close friends for the most part.)

I’ve found a book company that will match donations by 50%, which will get them even more books and bears for kids to hold and take home with them as they recover.

If you can give a $25, great. Every little bit counts.  Your donation is much appreciated. I’m glad to start a project like this and give back. It’s so good to give!

I plan on wrapping up the donation drive Monday. We plan to take the books to kids at the burn unit by Christmas.
