More than half a century has passed in the case of a man who vanished from south-central Kansas.

Charles ‘Chuck’ Mansker, Jr., was reported missing mid-October 1968, family tells the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. He was 27 years old at the time.

His brother, John, reported him missing with the National Missing and Unidentified Person System in 2015, and that’s when John discovered a missing-persons report had never been filed with Wichita Police. On Feb. 3, 2016, the sheriff’s office was advised that Wichita Police wasn’t filing a report, so the county did, said Lt. Nate Gibbs, public information officer for the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. They’ve been working with Charles’ brother and sister on the case. His brother hired a private detective but nothing was ever found. This remains one of the oldest missing persons cases in Sedgwick County.

“Our detectives located and contacted the ex-wife who believed the last time she saw him was in Mexico,” Gibbs said. “Detectives have collected DNA from a family member which was sent in to NamUs.”

From here, DNA entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) will be compared to Charles, including cases of missing people found, unidentified bodies, criminal DNA and family DNA entered into the database.
