More than 40 years have passed since Wichita State student Manouchehr “Mike” Nafar vanished.
On Feb. 25, 1983, Mike’s yellow van was found abandoned and set on fire at a car wash on the south end of Augusta. The license plate tag, though, was missing. It had a Kansas plate SG M 37993 with an expiration year of 1983.
According to government records, on that day, he was supposed to go home on the southeast side of Wichita, but police are not sure he made it there. He missed class at WSU and was supposed to go look for a job.
Mike’s family was last known to be in Iran. Police and the U.S. Department of State have tried to track them down to get DNA samples, but they have not been successful. If dead, DNA could help confirm his identity.
If alive, Mike would be in his 60’s today.
