When I resigned from my job at KWCH, I thought for once, I might catch a breather. You know, that time where you can catch up on those little things you’ve been meaning to do: spring cleaning, donating old clothes, etc.

But of course, the TV industry always continues to surprise me. This week may be one of those rare moments where I can finally rest up—but it’s not without a lot on my mind.

Let me take you back to the beginning of the month.

I finally moved out of my old apartment to stow at my boyfriend’s house until I get a job. The rent is far cheaper. Plus, it’s nice to share my final moments at home with him. The past few weeks have been great, but boy have they been busy.

Just a couple days after I finished up work at Channel 12, I flew out to Cleveland for a reporter gig. The job is right up my alley and the staff—well, they’re nothing short of fabulous! It’s exciting to be invited to join one of the most forward-thinking newsrooms of the country. The station has 9 ½ hours of news. Plus they host a talk show and—of course, my favorite—a cooking show. The station is one of the first in the country to go HD, so it’s nice to know it’s an industry trendsetter. The job is an opportunity hard to resist.

But of course, there’s always a twist to the fairytale search, right? At the same time, I’m getting interest from a few other stations—one in Raleigh, another in Memphis, but one market that’s been on the top of my list: Kansas City, gives me a call.

So the next week, I make the drive with my boyfriend and his dad to KC. As they indulge in the more exciting parts of the city, I’m interviewing to become a part of another great newsoom.

Being close to home is definitely a perk, but I think Kansas City would offer me a lot of growth as well. There was so much I learned in my one-on-one with the news director. I can only imagine how much my storytelling would develop on his team. (Not that Cleveland couldn’t give me that, either, but it’s nice to know that I do have room to grow—and there are people who could shape me to becoming a better journalist.)

This all leads me to the present… this my “breather week.” My time to just think. And there’s a lot to weigh. Both Kansas City and Cleveland are amazing opportunities. I’m lucky to have options. And by this Monday, I will have a decision.

The good thing is regardless of where I go, I’ll be in good hands.

Tim & his dad win big at the casino!
I reward myself with a monster blueberry muffin at dinner. Yummy.
