CLEVELAND–A little fight over the holidays isn’t completely unheard of, but it’s a bit unusual at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.
Today, the zoos Amur tigers got a special treat to celebrate Thanksgiving–and it lead to a bit of a catfight.
After a few growls, mother and daughter tigers Gaia and Dasha, feasted over meat-stuffed pumpkins.
But as for who got the bigger helping, it was a bit of a surprise to zoo staff.
“Actually it’s just dominance. Whoever has more dominance usually wins out on the food,” said Stefanie Poduska, animal keeper at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. “For some reason today, daughter outwon mom. It is a bit unusual.”
Special feedings and enrichment events are scheduled throughout the zoo on Thanksgiving between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. This involves several different animals, including the orangutans, swamp monkeys, fossa, sharks, rhinos, sloth bears and seals. Admission is free to all patrons that day.
