CLEVELAND–Two local high schools used their longstanding rivalry too benefit others.
Saint Ignatius and Saint Edward High School students competed as donors in the Battle for Blood competition.
Harrison Stadnik was one of 300 students and staff that pledged to donate blood to the American Red Cross.
“It’s really inspiring,” said Stadnik, a senior at Saint Ignatius High School. “It’s really cool to go to a school where all these guys geniunly care about others and about the community, too. It helps bring the guys together.”
The school with the most donors wins a coveted trophy and bragging rights for the entire year.
“Anybody who donates blood is a winner,” Stadnik said. “It’s less about the competition. It’s more about giving back.”
American Red Cross staff said the organization typically runs low on blood supplies during this time of year. School blood drives help curb the problem because of the mass supply of donors at one location.
