UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio–The University of Pennsylvania is investigating the death of a local college basketball player.

John Carroll sophomore Matt Crozier, 20, died from severe head trauma caused by an accidental fall.

In a statement from the University of Pennsylvania, Crozier was attending a New Year’s Eve party at a fraternity house near campus, where was injured from a 40-foot fall.

Crozier helped lead the Blue Streaks to two All-Ohio Athletic Conference championships, said John Carroll head basketball coach Mike Moran.

Though Crozier played in 58 games over the past two seasons, he was redshirted this season due to injuries sustained this past summer.

“We’re at a total loss with that,” Moran said. “He was a total good kid. Great player, sociable young man, great student. Just the kind of kid you’d like your daughter to bring home.”

The Blue Streaks will play Wilmington College at John Carroll this Saturday. The game was set to start at 4, but it is now pushed back to 7 p.m.
