VERMILION, Ohio–He was a firefighter for 47 years, now an Ohio community lays Roger Hobart Sick to rest.

Roger had been a volunteer firefighter in Vermilion for most of his life.

He died Monday at 69 years old.

To the somber sound of bagpipes, firetrucks lined the street as dozens of emergency personel honored him at his funeral today.

“Roger was a down-to-earth guy,” said Vermilion Fire Chief Chris Stempowski. “Absolutely had his heart 100 percent in this department, for the community. When we needed something, we always went to Roger.

An Army veteran and Vermilion High School graduate, Roger brought a wealth of experience to the department.

He served as lieutenant, captain, chief engineer, assistant chief and was appointed to fire marshall position in 2006.

“Roger’s been a tremendous asset for this department,” Stempowski said.”He was there anytime I needed him. A phone call away. It’s a very sad day for our department. He’s going to be truly missed.”

Roger is survived by his wife Sharon, three daughters, six grandchildren and two great grandsons.
